ASUC is proud to be a signatory to 100% Hackitt. This industry-led initiative seeks to ensure that the 53 recommendations made by Dame Judith Hackitt are adopted by Ministers and put into practice.

Led by the British Board of Agrément (BBA) and the Local Authority Building Control (LABC), the initiative allows industry insiders to take the lead in seeing the changes come to fruition by placing pressure on the government to follow through on the Hackitt recommendations.

Making these changes will be a cross-disciplinary effort that will bring together individuals and organisations from across the industry. This therefore provides an opportunity for ASUC and its members to make a real difference in leading the way to a better future in the construction and building industry.

ASUC Executive Director Rob Withers comments, “Although the Hackitt report is about fire safety standards following Grenfell, it emphasises the need for competence in construction generally, not just the need for better control through building regulations. At ASUC we are championing UKAS accreditation which ASUC expects to achieve in Q1 of 2019.  This means the ASUC audit system will be fully supported by BS 17065 and accredited by UKAS. Our clients will therefore have the comfort of knowing that they are engaging with fully competent companies who train their operatives in the task required and can provide meaningful latent defects insurance via the various ASUC schemes. All of which are underwritten by UK based, A rated or better, insurers.” He adds, “We fully support the 100% Hackitt initiative driven by LABC and the BBA for those reasons.”

In a post-Grenfell era, it is more important than ever to make sure that standards within the industry are maintained for the sake of the public and industry-insiders alike. ASUC is ready to be at the forefront of these developments and looks forward to working to put the Hackitt recommendations into action.

ASUC specialist contractor members are thoroughly and independently audited and the association firmly believes in maintaining quality standards in the industry.
