In the Spring of 2018, ASUC member company Neil Foundations Systems Ltd took on a project in Reading, Berkshire. This was a special project which will have wide-reaching implications for the surrounding community.
Neil Foundations Systems Ltd newly-designed and -built B15000 restricted access CFA rig was the perfect fit for this project. It involved constructing 48no 300mm dia CFA piles to 7.5m long and construction of the reinforced concrete ground beams.
Overcoming challenges
The location of this project presented certain challenges. The site was next to the busy main train line into Reading and so required innovative problem solving. The use of the low headroom piling rig removed the requirement for detailed liaison with network rail.
Upon observing the soils coming out of the pile bores, Neil Foundations queried the requirement for a voidformer below the beams. This prompted a re-think and the voidformer was not used. As such, they were able to pass financial and time savings onto our client.
The project was carried out for Launchpad Reading which exist to provide new homes and aid for the homeless in Reading.
