ASUC’s Executive Director, Rob Withers, was invited to update the PCA conference on Waterproofing in Basements on 13 September at the Slate building in Warwick University. Following notable presentations around Crossrail and basements being built under the Royal Albert Hall, Rob was able to update PCA members on ASUC’s Basement Guidelines, Contract Procurement documents and provide up-to-date figures (contained in the presentation slides) on the number of basements constructed over the last 10 years, their uses and purpose and also an insight into RBKC current planning applications.
Planning for a basement in London is now entirely linked to providing up front information to the authorities on:
- Traffic Management planning and
- before construction: Information to obtain party wall awards
– all this before a shovel hits the ground!
London basements, even since the revisions to planning, still appears to be a growing market – albeit growing more slowly than previously and overseas investment seems to fund a number of the bigger projects.
The Presentation to the PCA was well received – who knows we may get invited back again in the coming years to update members again.
